Baseball Recap: Morristown-Beard Comes Up Short

Morristown-Beard fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Kinnelon on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colts by a score of 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Crimson in their meetings with the Colts: they've now lost seven in a row.

Austin Gildea put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.

In other pitching news, Sam Bastardo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Chase Zaikov and Jacob Suna did some serious damage despite the final result: Zaikov went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Suna went 4-for-5 with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Cherins, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one double.

Morristown-Beard's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Kinnelon, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-9.

Coming up, Morristown-Beard will host Whippany Park at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Kinnelon, they will head out to square off against Blair Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
