The Alta Hawks came tearing into Friday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 52-46 W over Brighton. For Alta, this counts as revenge for the 71-50 loss Brighton walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Leafa Niumeitolu was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Mismash, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Brighton saw an underclassman step up: Sophie Nielsen scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Oneal, who scored a point along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Alta's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Brighton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-5.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing East the next time they take the court. Brighton will head out to face East at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Alta will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
