Tyler Burr and Sam Webb did most of the damage at the plate: Burr went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Webb scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Gilbert Christian is 8-1 when Webb posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Dane Coyle was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Gilbert Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Valley Christian faced Seton Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Valley Christian never let Seton Catholic get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.
Not much got past Cameron Bergloff, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Seton Catholic off the board. Those 12 strikeouts gave Bergloff a new career-high.
At the plate, Berkeley Kaiser was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Danzeisen, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Valley Christian's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Gilbert Christian, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Gilbert Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
