Fairfax has gone 8-2 against University recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Fairfax Lions duke it out with University Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. Fairfax comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
On Monday, Fairfax came up short against Westchester and fell 16-12. Even if the Lions couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Allison Vasquez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Keithsy Segura, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, University didn't have quite enough to beat Hamilton on Monday and fell 7-6. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kayla Carpenter was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Carpenter was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Sharlyn Mendoza was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season.
Fairfax's record now sits at 0-6. As for University, their record is now 2-2.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fairfax has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've averaged .509. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fairfax suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to University when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Fairfax avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
