5A Region 4 recap September 10, 2013
American Fork took down Orem 53-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jacen Condie threw for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns during the win.
Lehi made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,710 from 5,776. The advance stemmed from a 36-33 victory over Pine View last week.
Caden Calton was the most successful running back in 5A Region 4 this week. In 38 carries, he ran for 347 yards as the Pioneers bested Timpanogos. Derek Hastings also contributed to the rushing game with 158 yards on the ground.
He went 12-14 with 0 interceptions.
Austin Whetzel was a key player and the best on defense this week as Lehi bested the Panthers. The 6-foot-0 senior.
Romney was the best wideout in the league this week as the Vikings topped the Timberwolves. Romney racked up 3 receptions for 109 yards. Micah Jones helped Pleasant Grove's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 45 yards.
Calton was a force in the backfield as David Hastings' team bested Pine View.
Calton was a passing and rushing force as the Pioneers topped Ray Hosner's team. Calton's key target this week was Jalen Bailey, who caught 2 passes for 24 yards.
Condie put up the best numbers through the air as the Cavemen defeated the Tigers. Condie's favorite target this week was Jonah Trinnaman, who caught 4 passes for 88 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Condie of American Fork is the league leader in passing yards this season with 775. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Romney. The Pleasant Grove star has 10 catches for 446 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Aaron Behm's team and Riverton. The Cavemen comes into the matchup ranked 16th in the state, while the Silverwolves ranks fourth.
Riverton led 5A Region 4 in scoring this week after putting up 57 points on Dixie. Cameron Christensen ran for 128 yards and caught 2 passes for 47 yards in the win.
