The Athens Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Calhoun Christian Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens is no doubt hoping to put an end to an 18-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Athens had to suffer through a rough 66-26 loss at the hands of the Hornets.
Despite the defeat, Athens had strong showings from Kale Kiefer, who scored nine points, and Addison Stanton, who scored five points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 70 points the game before, Calhoun Christian were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were dealt a 78-20 defeat at the hands of Stockbridge. While losing is never fun, Calhoun Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 632nd, while the Panthers are ranked 138th).
Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Calhoun Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Athens was taken down by the Cougars 72-28 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
