The Polk County Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight defeat. They were dealt a 73-26 loss at the hands of McMinn Central. While losing is never fun, Polk County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Chargers are ranked second).
McMinn Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Molly Masingale, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Masingale has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Mayfield, who scored 20 points along with four steals.
Polk County has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for McMinn Central, the win (which was their 18th in a row) raised their record to 22-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Polk County will square off against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. McMinn Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Bears at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Bradley Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 23 matchups -- so hopefully the Chargers like a good challenge.
