The Valley Christian Trojans came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Gilbert Christian 82-68. Given Valley Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Gilbert Christian is ranked 41st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Luke Shaw, who scored 29 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Carson Grier was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Gilbert Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Keon Talgo, who scored 23 points along with five assists and two steals. Talgo is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lopemi. Omole, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Valley Christian's win was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.33 points. As for Gilbert Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Christian will take on American Leadership Academy - Anthem South at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. American Leadership Academy - Anthem South is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Gilbert Christian, they will play host again and welcome Coolidge, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Coolidge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Friday.
