The Portal Panthers waltzed into Saturday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 63-50 win over Effingham County. Given Portal's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Effingham County is ranked 236th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portal to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amir Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Marion Tremble was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 7 rebounds.
Portal's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Effingham County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portal will play host again and welcome Statesboro, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Statesboro will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Effingham County, they will be playing at home against Southeast Bulloch at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
