Two dominant players in Julie Cuellar and Aizlyn Dewberry are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Anthony Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wink Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Anthony suffered their biggest defeat since November 21, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 62-29 loss at the hands of Fort Hancock. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Anthony in their matchups with Fort Hancock: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the defeat, Anthony saw an underclassman step up: Angelee Guerro scored 23 points. That's the first time this season that Guerro scored 15 or more points. Aissa Castillo was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Wink scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 85-31 win over McCamey on the road. Wink has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Dewberry, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Finley Frerich, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Anthony's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-11. As for Wink, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-8.
Anthony was taken down by Wink 84-19 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Anthony, Autumn Smith (who scored six points along with eight assists and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
