The Phillipsburg Stateliners came tearing into Thursday's matchup with 16 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bound Brook and snuck past 69-66. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Crusaders are ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Phillipsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Scerbo jr. led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ameer Herran, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Phillipsburg pushed their record up to 17-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Bound Brook, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
Phillipsburg will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Streaks at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bound Brook, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Hunterdon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
