Softball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Dodgeville's Winning Streak

Dodgeville dropped their record down to 8-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell 6-1 to the Brodhead Cardinals. The Dodgers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in June of 2021.

Ava Lord spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Dodgeville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayla Brom, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Brienna Wasley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Brodhead, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2. Six seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Brodhead's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ava Risum gave up a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Risum has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leah Rear, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Mady Henning was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Coming up, Dodgeville will square off against Prairie du Chien at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blackhawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Dodgers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Brodhead, they will be playing at home against Evansville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
