Montwood is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Socorro is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Rams will host the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Montwood 3.9, Socorro 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, Montwood needed a bit of extra time to put away Eastwood. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Troopers. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Troopers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Soph Sandoval was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, Socorro got the win against Coronado on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 20 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Danielle Lozoya made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Dominguez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jaslyn Gardea, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Socorro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coronado only posted an OBP of .222.
Montwood's victory bumped their record up to 26-7. As for Socorro, their win bumped their record up to 28-1.
