On Friday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the field. The American Heritage Patriots secured a 42-38 W over the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. American Heritage's victory was all the more impressive since the Raiders were averaging only 14.2 points allowed on the season.
American Heritage was led to victory by Dia Bell and Byron Louis. Bell threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns while completing 86.4% of his passes, while Louis gained 228 total yards and three touchdowns. Louis' longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. Malachi Toney was Bell's top target, picking up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
American Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 274 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Thomas Aquinas only rushed for 131.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to American Heritage's defensive line and their five sacks. Cory Simon was especially locked on to St. Thomas Aquinas' QB and sacked him twice. Simon also set a new season high mark in total tackles with eight. Another thorn in St. Thomas Aquinas' side was Isaac Tanis, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
When it comes to explaining why St. Thomas Aquinas lost, don't look at Andrew Indorf. Despite the final result, he threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on only five carries. Those 54 rushing yards gave Indorf a new career-high. 95 of Indorf's passing yards were hauled in by Julius Jones.
The win made it two in a row for American Heritage and bumps their season record up to 5-4. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
