Softball Game Preview: Biglerville Canners vs. Littlestown Thunderbolts

Biglerville is 1-8 against Littlestown since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Biglerville will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Littlestown at 4:15 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Biglerville is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against York Catholic. Biglerville put the hurt on York Catholic with a sharp 19-1 win on Friday. The Canners have beaten the Fighting Irish the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Fighting Irish has come to flipping the script.

Kierney Weigle was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Slaybaugh, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Biglerville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .720. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Littlestown never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Hanover 15-0. With that victory, the Thunderbolts brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Littlestown let Hannah Barthel and Alexis Stonesifer run wild. Barthel fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2, while Stonesifer fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those home runs marked the first that Stonesifer launched this season. Keira Miller was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

Biglerville couldn't quite finish off Littlestown when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Biglerville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
