Notre Dame Prep has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Desert Edge Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Notre Dame Prep rose to the challenge on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-20 win over Sunnyslope.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Notre Dame Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cooper Perry, who picked up 248 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Perry was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 66 yards. Noah Trigueros also helped out by tossing the rock for 311 yards.
Meanwhile, Desert Edge put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by Buena at home to the tune of 58-14. With Desert Edge ahead 51-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Desert Edge relied on the efforts of Markhi Mckinnon, who rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and Hezekiah Millender, who threw for 258 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Jaqua Anderson did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 112 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Buena to a paltry 230 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Desert Edge's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. In that department, Deshawn Warner was the leader with two sacks.
Notre Dame Prep's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Desert Edge, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Notre Dame Prep has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 375.4 total yards per game. However, it's not like Desert Edge struggles in that department as they've been even better at 380 per game.
