It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Venice Indians had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Lakewood Ranch 53-6 at home. The win was familiar territory for Venice who now have nine in a row.
Venice can attribute much of their success to Alvin Johnson iii, who rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadyn Glasser, who threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.
Venice's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Ryan Daly and his two sacks.
Venice has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.6 points per game. As for Lakewood Ranch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
Venice will play host again and welcome Immokalee, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Immokalee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Venice is ranked 14th). Lakewood Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
