Phillip Bell of E.E. Smith ran for the longest rushing play in 4A Mid-South this season against Terry Sanford last week. Bell scampered for 85 yards on the play and finished with 190 on the day as his team topped the Bulldogs.
E.E. Smith extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Terry Sanford, 41-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the Duran Mclaurin's team.
The Golden Bulls' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bell threw for 182 and three touchdowns and Ismail Williamson had 172 yards receiving. Jalen McKnight helped E.E. Smith's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Spencer Faircloth of Cape Fear is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1078. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, E.E. Smith's Bell has rushed for 926 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Williamson. The E.E. Smith star has 28 catches for 571 yards.
The top two teams in 4A Mid-South will face off this week when first place Jack Britt takes on second place E.E. Smith. Last week, Jack Britt bested South View, while the Golden Bulls defeated Wayne Inman's team.
E.E. Smith's Bell needs only 74 yards against the Buccaneers next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
There should be lots of points scored when the Golden Bulls and Jack Britt face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, E.E. Smith comes in having scored 201 this season, while Brian Rimpf's team has scored 193. The Golden Bulls scored 41 points last week as they bested the Bulldogs.
