The Purnell Swett Rams had lost two consecutive heartbreakers to the Lumberton Pirates and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. Purnell Swett was dealt a 69-19 defeat at the hands of the Pirates. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Purnell Swett has scored all season.
Aidan Clewis and Jodi Freeman certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Clewis scored five points, while Freeman scored three points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Purnell Swett struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lumberton racked up 20 assists.
Leading Lumberton to victory were Amare Jones and Dimetrious Jones. Jones dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 assists, while Jones scored 20 points along with four steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Jaiden Shephard was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Purnell Swett's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Lumberton, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purnell Swett won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Pine Forest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Friday. As for Lumberton, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Colts at 7:30 p.m.
