Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 23 this week, Fort Bend Bush beat Fort Bend Clements 72-33. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Fort Bend Austin was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs triumphed over Fort Bend Travis 49-31.
Fort Bend Bush's Ronald Monroe and Kasey Poole have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Monroe has thrown for 1,584 yards this season, while Poole has 27 catches for 574 yards. Timothy Jackson from Fort Bend Elkins leads the league in rushing with 366 yards.
The top two teams in 5A Region III District 23 will face off this week when first place Fort Bend Bush takes on second place Fort Bend Elkins. Last week, Allen Aldridge's team defeated the Rangers, while the Knights topped Fort Bend Hightower.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Broncos' Poole goes up against Fort Bend Elkins' Grant Patterson.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Dennis Brantley's team takes on Fort Bend Bush. The Knights' offense has racked up 292 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Broncos have allowed only 109 on the year.
Next week's game between Fort Bend Bush and Fort Bend Elkins will feature an aerial matchup as Monroe tests his arm against Patterson's defensive ability.
