Fans got a thrill when Daniel Welch and Edward -Michael Leary IV connected against Cocoa Beach. The connection went for 71 yards, the longest such play in 3A District 3 this season.
Holy Trinity Episcopal moved up to 339 from 392 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to move up by defeating the Minutemen 34-13.
Welch was a passing and rushing force as Holy Trinity Episcopal bested Cocoa Beach. He completed 6 passes for 169 yards and also ran for 102 yards.
Brandon Ziarno put up the best numbers in passing as Melbourne Central Catholic defeated Father Lopez. He finished with a total of 6 completions for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Hustlers' Ziarno and Max Erdman led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Ziarno has thrown for 682 yards this season, while Erdman, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 14 catches for 254 yards. Mark Ainsley's team's Alex Bouie leads the league in rushing yards with 467.
An important game coming up in 3A District 3 this week will be when First Academy takes on Melbourne Central Catholic. As it stands, the Royals are in fourth, while Mike Riazzi's team is in first.
The Hustlers added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Green Wave, 55-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
