After flying high against the Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders back in December of 2023, the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs came back down to earth. Wake Christian Academy opened the new year with a less-than-successful 42-34 defeat to St. Mary's. Wake Christian Academy lost against St. Mary's in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 45-44 score last time.
Caroline Hall and Emma Crissman certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Hall dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Crissman scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Crissman scored a full 58.8% of Wake Christian Academy's points, the 14th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading St. Mary's to victory were Mary Marshall Rankin and Emmy Johnson. Rankin scored ten points, while Johnson scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Abby Sottini, who scored six points.
Wake Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for St. Mary's, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wake Christian Academy will take on St. David's at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. David's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Friday. As for St. Mary's, they will be playing at home against Riverside-Durham at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Riverside-Durham has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while St. Mary's will arrive with three straight wins.
