The Ayden - Grifton Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 14th straight loss. They were dealt a 51-21 defeat at the hands of SouthWest Edgecombe. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ayden - Grifton in their matchups with SouthWest Edgecombe: they've now lost four in a row.
SouthWest Edgecombe found their leader in underclassman Kd Collins, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Collins has scored at least a third of SouthWest Edgecombe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of A'Chonacey (Chonie) Mabry, who scored eight points along with ten steals.
Ayden - Grifton has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-21 record this season. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Washington the next time they take the court. SouthWest Edgecombe will host Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Ayden - Grifton will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
