Delta has gone a perfect 3-0 against Connersville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will challenge the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Delta took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Shelbyville by a score of 10-5.
The team relied heavily on Cale Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brady Williams, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Delta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Connersville never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Lawrenceburg with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Lawrenceburg's batters probably weren't too happy with Brody Shearer, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up five walks). Shearer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Connersville let Brayden Keller and Zaine Bentley run wild. Keller went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Bentley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Keller is becoming a predictor of Connersville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Noah Patterson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Connersville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Delta, their record now sits at 8-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Delta has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Connersville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Delta's way against Connersville when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Delta made off with a 7-0 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
