Hampton is 0-6 against Kenesaw since December of 2014 but things could change on Monday. The Hampton Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Kenesaw Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hampton will head into Saturday's contest on the come-up: they were handed a 45-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Wilcox-Hildreth, sneaking past 44-42.
Hampton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landen Hansen, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Dose, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kenesaw). They claimed a resounding 77-7 win over Harvard. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Cardinals are ranked 255th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hampton better keep an eye on Adam Denkert. He was instrumental in Kenesaw's win, going 8 of 11 on his way to 16 points and four steals. That's the most steals Denkert has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Wagoner, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and four steals.
Kenesaw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.
Hampton's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Kenesaw, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hampton has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Kenesaw struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hampton was taken down by Kenesaw 70-31 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hampton was down 37-16.
