The Marquette Crusaders waltzed into Monday's game with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 59-49 win over Dwight. Given Marquette's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Dwight is ranked 481st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dwight's loss came despite strong showings from Mikayla Chambers and Ryan Bean. Chambers scored 22 points, while Bean scored 17 points. Chambers scored a full 44.9% of Dwight's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Marquette's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Dwight, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marquette will take on Midland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Dwight, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Streator at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Streator comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last eight games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
