2A-1 Region III District 10 recap October 1, 2013
Anahuac scaled the state rankings by moving to 844 from 887 this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region III District 10. The Panthers were able to move up by losing to Kirbyville 21-8.
Kountze was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Lions triumphed over Hardin 33-0.
Josh Cooper was a passing and rushing force as Anahuac lost to the Wildcats. He completed 14 passes for 137 yards and also ran for 107 yards. Cooper's key target this week was Xayian Lewis, who caught 3 passes for 60 yards.
Roney Elam and Brandon Johnson gave Newton a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Elam threw for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Johnson ran for 166 yards. Teammate Calum Foster added to the ground attack by rushing for 60 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Jace Thomas. The Newton star has 3 catches for 156 yards.
At the moment, the Eagles are in first, while Kirbyville is in third.
Newton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Warren, 64-8. The win marks fourth in a row for the W.T. Johnston's team.
