The Kuna Kavemen will head out to take on the Owyhee Storm at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kuna is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Kuna made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Eagle, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Kavemen fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. The Kavemen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kuna got a good showing from Kaleb Olsen, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Olsen has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jackson Edwards was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times he's played. Carson Hindle also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Owyhee came out on top against Borah on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Storm put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 11-0 win. Considering the Storm have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaleb Doty tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Gage Haws and Cade Walker did most of the damage at the plate: Haws went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double, while Walker went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Haws continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Jack Hallenbeck was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Owyhee hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Owyhee's record is now 18-1. As for Kuna, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kuna has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Owyhee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Kuna couldn't quite get it done against Owyhee in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 7-3. Can the Kavemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
