There's no place like home for the Piedra Vista Panthers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They put the hurt on West Mesa with a sharp 58-38 win on Tuesday. This was payback for Piedra Vista, who suffered a 46-42 loss the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Piedra Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyra Holyan, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christian Smith, who scored 12 points.
West Mesa's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evelyn Brito, who scored six points along with five steals. Marsai Martinez was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Piedra Vista pushed their record up to 10-9 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for West Mesa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Piedra Vista will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. Farmington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Panthers in New Mexico (the Scorpions are ranked first, while the Panthers are ranked 31st). As for West Mesa, they will head out on the road to challenge the Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Eldorado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
