Lake Central is a perfect 10-0 against Lowell since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Indians will venture away from home to challenge the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lowell will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Lake Central extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Indians blew past Harrison 14-5.
Maddie Such looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Taylor Schafer was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 matchups. Lexi Iwema was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Lowell waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Trojans. With that win, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Olivia Fuentes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Preslee Hill, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Isabella Baron also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only posted a batting average of .125.
Lake Central's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Lowell, their record is now 9-4.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lake Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .406. However, it's not like Lowell struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Central took their victory against Lowell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
