Baseball Recap: Eastern's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Eastern had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 19-12 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Central Hardin Bruins by a score of 6-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 6-2 victory the Bruins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Aidan Calhoun was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matchups. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Cansler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 contests. Another player making a difference was George Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Eastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Hardin only posted a batting average of .200.

As for Central Hardin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On Central Hardin's side, Devin Hubbard made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Hubbard is becoming a predictor of the Bruins' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 9-14 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Robertson, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern will host Christian Educational Consortium at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Hardin, they will take on Green County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
