Softball Recap: Natchitoches Central Extends Winning Streak to Three

Natchitoches Central waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Huntington Raiders an 18-0 shutout. The Chiefs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Sydni Jones made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Maggie Massia and Lila Robertson did most of the damage at the plate: Massia scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Robertson scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. That's the most stolen bases Robertson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Morgan Robinson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Natchitoches Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

Natchitoches Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-14. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Huntington, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Natchitoches Central will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Haughton at 6:00 p.m. The Chiefs will need to watch out since the Buccaneers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups. As for Huntington, they will venture away from home to take on St. Mary at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
