The Laney Buccaneers won the last time they faced the New Hanover Wildcats, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Laney walked away with a 51-42 win over New Hanover. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Laney.
Laney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Piper Conklin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Lauren Bastable was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Iyana Rogers, who scored 18 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rogers has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Stanley, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Laney is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for New Hanover, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laney will challenge West Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Hanover, they will head out on the road to challenge Kinston at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kinston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 234th, while New Hanover is ranked 53rd).
