Vicksburg is 7-1 against Callaway since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Vicksburg Gators will be playing at home against the Callaway Chargers at 7:00 p.m.
There was early excitement for Vicksburg after they claimed the first score on Friday, but it was Warren Central who ended up claiming the real prize. Vicksburg and Warren Central were almost perfectly matched up, but Vicksburg suffered an agonizing 19-18 loss. That's two games in a row now that Vicksburg has lost by exactly a single point.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from DeCorey Knight Jr, who rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Callaway fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down Ridgeland 28-14 on Thursday.
Callaway's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Duran McClendon, who rushed for 201 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Kantrell Thomas Jr, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Callaway's victory bumped their season record to 4-4 while Vicksburg's loss dropped theirs to 4-3.
Vicksburg didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Callaway in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 27-22 victory. Will Vicksburg repeat their success, or does Callaway have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
