Basketball Recap: Salt Lake Academy Takes a Loss

Salt Lake Academy was the 142-18 winner over Merit Preparatory Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Salt Lake Academy Griffins took a blow against the Merit Preparatory Academy Knights on Tuesday, falling 71-44. The Griffins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Salt Lake Academy still got an impressive performance from Braylon Brock, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards. Brock is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Elijah Johnson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Michigan Draper was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points along with seven assists and seven steals for Merit Preparatory Academy. Draper is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Steinman, who posted 14 points and six rebounds.

Salt Lake Academy now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Merit Preparatory Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.

Salt Lake Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-32 win against Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams on the 10th. As for Merit Preparatory Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 100-26 victory against Telos on the 10th.
