Ocracoke is 2-8 against Cape Hatteras since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Ocracoke Dolphins will stay at home for another game and welcome the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes at 3:30 p.m. on February 12th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Ocracoke scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 35-14 margin over Washington Montessori. The victory was just what Ocracoke needed coming off of a 59-24 loss in their prior game.
Ocracoke found their leader in underclassman Jami Martinez, who scored 17 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Martinez has scored at least a third of Ocracoke's points. Another player making a difference was Heidy Lora, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Cape Hatteras put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Mattamuskeet on the road to the tune of 59-15. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Cape Hatteras had established a 35 point advantage.
Cape Hatteras' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abby O'Neal led the charge by scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Philips, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Ocracoke's win ended a eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Cape Hatteras, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Ocracoke was dealt a bruising 56-10 defeat at the hands of Cape Hatteras in their previous meeting back in January. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ocracoke was down 37-2.
