Northern Durham suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Hillside at home and fell 72-14. While losing is never fun, Northern Durham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 521st, while Hillside is ranked 72nd).
Meanwhile, Chapel Hill stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They breezed by Riverside-Durham on the road to the tune of 48-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Chapel Hill has posted yet this season.
Chapel Hill got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Beale out in front who scored 14 points along with eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadzia Burnette, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Northern Durham bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.2 points per game. As for Chapel Hill, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
Northern Durham took a serious blow against Chapel Hill in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 69-16. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Northern Durham was down 39-7.
