The Bertrand Vikings will face off against the Hitchcock County Falcons at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Bertrand has given up an average of 29.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bertrand is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 78 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Cambridge last Thursday. They were dealt a 56-6 loss at the hands of the Trojans. The Vikings have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Bertrand might have lost, but man, Thunder Nelson was a machine: he picked up 79 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 57 yards.
Meanwhile, Hitchcock County put another one in the bag last Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Overton with a sharp 28-7 victory. The score was close at halftime, but the Falcons pulled away in the second half with 22 points.
The critical scores for Hitchcock County came from Brody Hubl, Jayce Hauxwell, Adam Kisker, and Jack Baker.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hitchcock County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 255 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Hitchcock County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Baker and Hubl.
Hitchcock County's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Bertrand, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Bertrand has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 228.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hitchcock County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 374.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
