Having just played yesterday, the King Wolves will jump right back in to play the University Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but King ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. It was close, but they capped 2023 with a 62-59 win over Central Catholic.
Mathias Tinker was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Justin Brayard was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
University has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 30 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Priory 90-60 on the road. Given University's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Priory is ranked 653rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The win got King back to even at 9-9. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
King beat University 69-60 when the teams last played back in December of 2021. Does King have another victory up their sleeve, or will University turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
