The Florence Eagles will head out to face off against the Pisgah Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Florence knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Pisgah likes a good challenge.
Florence's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Vicksburg with a sharp 15-0 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Austin Pickett was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bryan Davis, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Florence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .548 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Pisgah ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past St. Andrew's Episcopal 8-7.
Coleson Steed made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Carlisle, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Florence's record is now 13-10-2. As for Pisgah, their record now sits at 19-7-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Florence has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Florence suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Pisgah when the teams last played back in February. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
