On Friday, The Alamogordo Tigers faced the Centennial Hawks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Alamogordo suffered a rough 42-21 defeat at the hands of Centennial. Alamogordo's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Alamogordo's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anthony Audette, who rushed for 131 yards while picking up 8.2 yards per carry.
Zaiden Davis was on fire for Centennial: he rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes. Davis' longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Ortiz, who gained 103 total yards and two touchdowns.
Centennial's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Cole Alons and his three sacks.
Alamogordo has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Centennial, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Alamogordo will head out on the road to face off against Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Organ Mountain comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Centennial, they will be playing at home against Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Las Cruces is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
