Lakecrest Baptist had just enough and edged Arthur-Okaw Christian out 54-52. Given Lakecrest Baptist's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 58th in Michigan, while Arthur-Okaw Christian is ranked 503rd in Illinois), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arthur-Okaw Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Brock Helmuth and Kyson Pflum. Helmuth scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, while Pflum scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. That's the first time this season that Helmuth pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Skowronski, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Lakecrest Baptist's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Arthur-Okaw Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Lakecrest Baptist on the road again on Tuesday and play against Community Baptist Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th. Community Baptist Christian's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Lakecrest Baptist's offense will have their work cut out for them. Arthur-Okaw Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against State Line Christian at 9:30 a.m. on January 13th.
