Culpeper County came out on top against Albemarle on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Blue Devils walked away with an 8-3 win over the Patriots. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Eastern View made easy work of Courtland on Thursday and carried off a 14-4 win. Considering the Cyclones have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cailin Rendell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tenley Rendell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Caelie Culbertson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI.
Eastern View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.
Eastern View's victory bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Culpeper County, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
