La'Breah Sands made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Elena Friedman was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Audrey Vivino, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Montverde Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Trinity Catholic owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Melbourne Central Catholic 2-0. That's two games straight that the Celtics have won by exactly two runs.
The result came thanks to Caylee Barbe's shutout, as she gave up just six hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Trinity Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julianna Ortega, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Montverde Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 21-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Montverde Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Montverde Academy's way against Trinity Catholic in their previous meeting back in April, as Montverde Academy made off with a 10-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
