Gregory-Portland is 8-2 against Ray since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will welcome the Texans at 7:00 p.m. Gregory-Portland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Gregory-Portland made easy work of Miller and carried off a 9-1 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Madison Mauricio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Keith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jalysa Alvarado was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Gregory-Portland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 11-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Ray was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Alice, falling 20-10.
Ray got a big performance out of Alexianna Perez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kylie Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Gregory-Portland's victory bumped their record up to 17-9. As for Ray, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
Ray's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gregory-Portland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Ray, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Gregory-Portland's sizable advantage in that area, the Texans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gregory-Portland took their win against Ray in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-1 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Texans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
