The Newcastle Dogies were the 53-50 winner over the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Newcastle fell just short of Lead-Deadwood by a score of 59-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Newcastle still got an impressive performance from Wyatt Cole, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The contest was Cole's third in a row with at least ten points. Teddy Troftgruben was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Newcastle and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Lead-Deadwood, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Newcastle will be home for the holidays to greet Belle Fourche at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Belle Fourche focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. Lead-Deadwood won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sundance at 12:30 p.m. on December 16th.
