Jefferson hasn't had much luck against Hononegah recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The J-Hawks will host the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Jefferson sitting on three straight victories and Hononegah on four.
Jefferson will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Rockford Auburn, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The J-Hawks walked away with a 10-5 win over the Knights on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the J-Hawks considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hononegah). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Guilford an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Emma Tapia looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hononegah let Peyton Klikno and Aislyn Palmer run wild. Klikno got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Palmer got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Palmer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaelyn Kelly, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Hononegah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Guilford only managed two hits.
Hononegah's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.
Jefferson might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Hononegah in their previous meeting back in April. Will the J-Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
