Alonso is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Gaither is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Alonso Ravens will welcome the Gaither Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Alonso: 2, Gaither: 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Alonso is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Newsome just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 2-1. The contest marked the Ravens' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Andy Aduriz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alvin Santiago made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That stolen base marked the first that he stole this season.
Meanwhile, everything went Gaither's way against Chamberlain on Friday as Gaither made off with a 12-4 victory. With that win, the Cowboys brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Crafton Gaczewski looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Albert Antinori, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was SJ Branham, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Gaither kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Alonso's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Gaither, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Alonso has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gaither struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Alonso skirted past Gaither 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Alonso repeat their success, or does Gaither have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
