Essex made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mathews, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Blue Devils on Thursday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by nine runs or more this season.

Tai'Leah Cowles made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing six bases while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, Macey Revere was a standout: she scored three runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-5. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Makiryn Williams, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

The win made it two in a row for Essex and bumps their season record up to 3-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Mathews, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Essex will be playing at home against Rappahannock at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mathews, they will venture away from home to challenge Northumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
