Sebastian Suarez and Yadier Soler made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Suarez didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Soler tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Suarez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Suarez got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Soler got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance also gave Soler a new career-high in hits (two).
In other batting news, David Marte was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emil Valenzuela, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Washington Heights Expeditionary and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Community Health Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Community Health Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington Heights Expeditionary struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
